Convergence of voice & data telecommunication transmission‏

• Communication technologies is expanding by the day as we know it. There has been substanstantial advances in telecommunication technology for the past few years such as cooper wire has been replaced by fiber optic cable can beam light across glass filaments, making transmission clearer, faster and able to carry ever increasing amount of data and voice traffic.

• This plays a key role in fostering the growth of the internet. Companies such as Microsoft, AT&T, Motorola and etc. have benefited from this encounter. Companies such as Microsoft have expanded their business from being a software company to becoming a media company, an internet company and a cable televisyen company.

• Through the expansion of the communication technologies, companies have been merging to expand their business to become a multiple business organisation. We now have technologies such as the third generation (3G), wireless internet and many more.

• We now can even purchase goods with a clickon the internet and the goods will be delivered to our front door within a couple of days. Its a fact that technologies such as cell phone and internet these days has the same priority such as food and water in our life today.

'Communication technology keeps getting in the way of communication'.

• Everything has it’s pros and con’s. That goes the same for communication technology as we all know is the main way we communicate these days. Since new technologies such as cell phone and email has been introduced, people would rather communicate through phone and email rather then having a face to face conversation .

• This can be a problem because when communicating through cell phone and email, we well have problems such as expressing ourself and also can cause a mislead of information and understanding which can cause an ill feeling to some parties.

• This will also have effect on health issues because with these technologies being misused, users would rather email or call rather then having a walk across the block to have a face to face conversation which sometimes is the best solution to settle some issues and at the same time excercising without them knowing.

• Cell phone users also sometimes talk aloud in public areas such as in the public train or in the public bus without realising they are causing a disturbance among the people around them. Research has also shown that high school students tend to be more overweight these days due to spending most of the time infront of the computers, playing videogames and surveying the internet which will long term cause to physical deterioration.

• Every good thing has it’s negative side, and at the end of the day it’s the users that tend to misuse the communication technologies that is suppose to be a benefit to us into having negative impact as we know.

• With this i personally think that we as users have to be rational to new communicating technologies so that communicating through the pure way such as face to face or across the table discussion does not become abandoned.

"The Digital Ages of Man". Richard Naish.

• Technologies nowdays have made a big impact in our lives these days. With the upcoming generation nowdays, almost all teenagers are used to using technologies such as computers, notebook and ipods.

• These seems to be a problem for the lecturers and teachers because they are from the past generation and they have to adapt to the new method of teaching and adapt fast. There’s a ton of difference between the DNs (DIGITAL NATIVE LEARNERS) which are the upcoming generations and Dls (DIGITAL IMMIGRANTS TEACHERS) which are from the past generation of doing things, such as, the DNs prefer to multitask where as the Dls prefer to limited tasking.

• Whenever new technologies are invented, teachers and lectures have to adapt to the new method fast so that their student don’t get left behind in the new world of technologies. Its a problem to the Dls because they are used to their old habits of doing things. It’s a proven fact that as the days goes by, new technologies will be invented and the generation from the past will have to adapt to the new technologies or they will be left behind.

• So, it’s fair to say that every generation have their own way of doing things and the past generation will always have to play catch up with the upcoming generation or face being left behind in the new world of never ending technologies.

"Facilitating Long Distance Relationship between Malaysia Grandparent(GP)

and Granchildren(GC) Living in the UK through Computer Mediated Communiction".

• Prior studies have underscored the importance of grandparents and grandchildren relationship. Contact with grandchildren is highly valued by many grandparents, and many grandparents wish to maintain regular contact with grandchildrens.

• Research has proven that there is a communication problems between grandparents and grandchildren due to language and communication differnces between the two generations.

• Research shows that once the younger generation starts schooling they tend to spend more time with their friends rather then their grandparents. This issue tends to worsen if the grandparents have a long distance relationship with their grandchildren. In this issue, the parents plays an important role to assure that their grandchildren have a close relationship with their grandparents.

• Younger generation these days also spend most of their time with browsing internet , chatting and playing computer games. Where as the older generations are not familiar the method. A small population of the older generations nowdays are also starting to use the internet to communicate. Research shows that the older generation use the internet for emails, chatting, purchasing goods and searcing for information. With this grandparents can communicate with their grandchildren through chatting and email. The only thing that stands in the way is the language difference between the two generations.

• This shows that the older generations are trying to catch up with the younger generations, where as the younger generations does not have the interest to appreciate the elder generations method of doing things.

Communicating For A New Age

Artikel ini menceritakan bagaimana komunikasi pada zaman ini lebih efektif berbanding pada zaman sebelumnya. Sebagaimana yang kita tahu, pada alaf baru ini terdapat banyak cara baru untuk kita berkomunikasi contohnya seperti penggunaan emel dan teks mesej. Menurut Carol Kinsey Goman, sektor pekerjaan zaman ini banyak berkomunikasi dengan menggunakan peralatan elektronik contohnya penggunaan internet adalah lebih meluas berbanding komunikasi bersemuka.

Kaedah ini adalah lebih efektif kerana ianya menjimatkan masa,kos dan juga tenaga berbanding dengan kaedah lama seperti pada zaman Baby Boomers. Berikut merupakan pengelasan 4 generasi

i)Generasi Veteran (1927-1945)
ii)Baby Boomers(1946-1964)
ii)Generasi X(1965-1983)
iii)Gebnerasi Y(1984 keatas)

Sektor pekerjaan zaman ini menghadapi sedikit masalah dalam berkerjasama antara generasi X dan generasi Y kerana generasi X lebih cenderung berkomunikasi melalui cara tradisional iaitu cara bersemuka sedangkan generasi Y lebih gemar menggunakan kaedah elektronik yang lebih cepat dan efektif. Generasi X seharusnya mengadaptasi penggunaan peralatan elektronik dalam berkomunikasi bagi memudahkan proses komunikasi antara 2 generasi.

Pelajar-pelajar universiti sekarang juga banyak mengikut perubahan teknologi yang berkembang dari masa ke semasa dengan menggunakan perlatan elektronik dalam berkomunikasi agar mereka lebih mudah untuk mendapat peluang pekerjaan apabila mereka tamat pengajian nanti memandangkan dunia hari ini menuntut agar kita lebih maju dalam apa juga bidang termasuklah dalam sektor pekerjaan.

Setelah meneliti artikel ini, terbukti bahawa alat-alat elektronik seperti telefon bimbit, komputer riba,mp3,PDA,playstation dan iPods memainkan peranan penting dalam rutin harian individu pada masa kini. Sebagai contoh, komputer riba berperanan penting sebagai alat untuk para pelajar menyiapkan tugasan.

Di samping itu juga, perlalatan elektronik juga berperanan sebagai alat untuk menghibur seperti bermain game, berchatting dan juga mendengar lagu. Penggunaan peralatan elektronik ini adalah mengikut keperluan individu masing-masing dan kesesuaian penggunaannya.

Oleh yang demikian, tidak hairanlah jika sesetengah individu sanggup berhabisan wang mereka semata-mata untuk memiliki kemudahan elektronik ini kerana pada zaman yang serba maju ini peralatan elektronik yang berteknologi adalah menjadi satu keperluan untuk setiap individu khususnya dalam bidang pendidikan mahupun sebagai alat untuk berhibur.
